Leaderboards jammed going into Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship rounds

The leaderboards have tightened at the 2024 Saskatchewan Amateur Championships that began Tuesday at the Royal Regina Golf Club.

Regina’s Alex Schmidt used day two of the Saskatchewan Amateur Women’s Championship to gain four strokes on day one leader Sela Ogada (Calgary) Wednesday and climb into a tie at 8-over par.

Reigning champion Emily Cornwall of Calgary is third.

In the Mid-Amateur (25+) Championship, Edmonton’s Darcy Garbutt is first at 24-over par through 36 holes, Abra Thompson of Saskatoon is four shots off the pace, Chelsea Kinoshita of Langenburg is in third at 32-over par.

The championship will conclude Thursday afternoon, the women’s field starts their tee times at 11 a.m. Leaderboards and tee times can be seen here.

In the Men’s Amateur Championship day one leader Luke Cote of Regina slipped back a bit and sits tied with Edmonton player Kye Fisher at 5-under par.

Two more players are a shot back, Saskatoon players Jehremy Ryde and Alex Swinnerton are 4-under par, the only other player under par in Regina’s Hunter Kutcher, he posted a 66 on Wednesday, the lowest score of the day.

Ryde leads the Mid- Amateur by four shots over Danny Klughart of Prince Albert. Tyler Zaba of Regina is third (1-over par) and Chris Knoop (Moose Jaw) and Mitch Matichuk (Regina) are in fifth place at 3-over par.

The Mid-Amateur Championship for the players 25-and-over will end after 54 holes this afternoon, the top 25 amateurs plus ties will move onto day four Friday.
